Hi, I’m Suzy (she/her)
I'm a mother of six — five living, one not. I've had six miscarriages and secondary infertility. I've been with my husband for seventeen years, married for fourteen. I'm a late-diagnosed autistic adult raising five boys, three of whom are also neurodivergent. I've sat with families at births and deaths, in grief and in joy, as a full-spectrum doula, as co-op organizer, a photographer, as a friend, and as someone who has lived inside the moments I now create ceremonies for.
I have always been someone who finds meaning in the ordinary. The rituals of a Tuesday. The way a candle changes a room. The moment before something significant happens, when everyone involved knows something is about to shift. I love holding space for both the big moments and the quiet ones.
For most of my life I felt I was different, but I couldn't name it. And one of the reasons it took so long is one of the biggest misconceptions about autism: that autistic people lack empathy. That was never me. If anything, I have always felt everything almost too much. I am hyper-empathetic, deeply attuned to the people around me, genuinely moved by what moves them. That stereotype kept me from recognizing myself for most of my life. Now that I know the truth, that autism and deep empathy not only coexist but are often inseparable, I look at it as one of the most beautiful pieces of who I am. It is how I hold space. It is how I connect.
Connection. Empathy. The deep human need for a container that says: this moment matters. You are seen.
That is what The Spectrum of Being is.
The community I wished existed, built for the people who may be looking for this too.
