A pregnancy blessing honors the person crossing into parenthood: their body, their courage, the life they are preparing to bring into the world. It gathers the people who love them most and asks them to witness, to offer, to hold.
It is an intimate ceremony that is typically small, sensory-rich, deeply personal. It may include physical honoring (hair braiding, foot washing, flower crowns), a shared ritual, and the creation of something to carry into labor. Of course, they can be adapted to be smaller, quieter, and entirely touch-optional.
Pregnancy Blessing
A baby welcoming and/ or naming ceremony are the secular or interspiritual equivalents of a baptism. They are a public welcoming of a new person into the world, and a formal giving of their name in the presence of witnesses.
These ceremonies work beautifully for families of any belief background, devoutly religious, entirely secular, interfaith, or anywhere in between. Available for all family structures: single parents, same-sex parents, adoptive families, donor-conceived families, blended families, chosen families.

The legal process of adoption rarely captures the weight of what is actually happening. An adoption ceremony does.
This ceremony marks the moment with the presence and intention it deserves. It says to the child, clearly and in the presence of witnesses: You are ours. You belong here. We belong with you. This family is yours.
